He was an Estonian by origin. His father, Otto Janovich Lind, worked as a foundry technologist at the Lentekstilmash plant. He became a victim of repression: on February 23, 1938, he was arrested by NKVD officers and convicted under Article 58-6-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR ("Counterrevolutionary activity"). On October 3 of the same year, Otto Janovich Lind was shot .
