Reginald Howard "Reggie" WhiteĀ was an American college and professionalĀ footballĀ player who was aĀ defensive endĀ andĀ defensive tackleĀ in theĀ National Football LeagueĀ (NFL) for 15 seasons during the 1980s and 90s. He playedĀ college footballĀ for theĀ University of Tennessee, and was recognized as anĀ All-American. After playing two professional seasons for theĀ Memphis ShowboatsĀ of theĀ United States Football League(USFL), he was selected in the first round of the 1985 Supplemental Draft, and then played for the NFL'sĀ Philadelphia Eagles,Ā Green Bay PackersĀ andĀ Carolina Panthers, becoming one of the most decorated players in NFL history. The two-timeĀ NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 13-timeĀ Pro BowlĀ and 12-timeĀ All-ProĀ selection holds 2nd place all-time amongst career sack leaders with 198.5 (behindĀ Bruce Smith's 200 career sacks) and was selected to theĀ NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team,Ā NFL 1990s All-Decade TeamĀ and theĀ NFL 1980s All-Decade Team. During his professional career, he was also known for hisĀ ChristianĀ ministry as an ordainedĀ EvangelicalĀ minister, leading to his nickname,Ā "The Minister of Defense."Ā White is a member of theĀ College Football Hall of FameĀ and theĀ Pro Football Hall of Fame.
