This gothic psycho-supernatural thriller that tells the story of an alienist, Grace Burnham (Amber Heard), that travels to a remote village in the 1890s to help a little boy, Martin Marquez (Lorenzo Zaini), exhibiting behavioral peculiarities that the villagers believe are behind their recent misfortunes is as good an indie film of its kind as you're ever going to watch. The performances, the production design, the scenery, and the costumes all work impressively together to support the film's narrative and its philosophical premises.
Is Martin really possessed as most of the villagers believe or is he suffering from (or gifted with) Savant Syndrome as Grace maintains? Conor Allyn and his crew do such a great job exploring and uncovering this mystery that I'd strongly recommend the movie to most people for at least one viewing. The ending will definitely leave most people hoping for a sequel.
